What's the problem?
The goal of Digital Rights Management (DRM) is to give content owners the ability to define and enforce what rights a person has with respect to a piece of content and under what conditions they can exercise those rights.
DRM is relevant for the media and entertainment industry who wish to provide some control over their content as it moves to machines under the control of potentially hostile consumers. But DRM is relevant for enterprises as well who wish to control how documents, emails and other kind of data is used.
DRM presents a number of security challenges that make it unclear whether or not it can be an effective technology at achieving these goals.
What are we doing?
- We are exploring the possibilities and limitations of DRM, and how it addresses piracy of media and entertainment content.
- We are exploring how Digital Rights Management can be applied in an enterprise setting.
