What's the problem?
- Systems are vulnerable to attacks and these attacks occurs at machine speed rather than human speed
- We can prevent some attacks but not all
- Others we can respond to, but this takes time since humans are in the loop. Attacks run riot until the response is implemented
- We need to provide protection and healing mechanisms that allow systems to survive in the face of attack
What are we doing?
- Vulnerability scanners, e.g. CodeRed, Nimda... (across the whole HP intranet)
- Benign responses, e.g. throttling techniques
- Development of secure test bed
