Shefali Sengupta
Sudhir Dixit is the Director at HP Labs India. His research interestes include telecommunications, computer communications research and development encompassing wireless and wireline (including optical) technologies. He joined HP Labs in June 2009. Prior to joining HP Labs he also held the distinguished role as Nokia Research Fellow and Senior Research Manager working on various networking technologies. He has held various management or engineering positions at Nokia, Research In Motion (RIM), NYNEX Science & Technology and GTE (both now Verizon Communications), Codex Motorola, Wang Laboratories, Harris, and STL (now Nortel Ltd, U.K.).
He is a Fellow of IEEE (USA), IET (UK) and IETE (India) and has received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, U.K., and the M.B.A. degree from Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, Florida. He has published or presented over 200 papers, edited 4 books, and holds 18 patents, with 6 pending, and has been issued 4 awards.
Raghu Anantharangachar is a Senior Research Scientist at HP Labs India. His current work involves creation of a mobile distributed software platform for supporting rich interactions. He has been associated with HP since Aug 1997, and moved to HP Labs India on 1 Sep 2010.
Prior to joining HP Labs, Raghu worked as a Master Architect at HP Best Shore Services and worked on Application Integration and Service Oriented Architectures, mostly in the Telecom domain. He also worked as a lead architect in the Integrated Services Management program at HP.
Raghu holds a M.Tech degree in Management Studies from Indian Institure of Science, and is currently pursuing his Doctoral program at IIIT-Bangalore. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Bangalore University. His broad areas of research are Systems Architecture, Mobile Application Platform and Semantic Web.
Raghu is a Senior Member of the IEEE. He is an OpenGroup certified Master Architect.
Serene Banerjee is a Senior Research Scientist at HP Labs India. She works on paper based interaction. Her research interests are in the areas of image and video processing, and optimization of systems and processors. She joined HP Labs in November 2006. Prior to joining HP Labs she was a senior software engineer with Texas Instruments, India, Inc. and a TCAD engineer with Intel, Inc.
She holds a PhD (2004) and MS (2001) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.Tech.(H) (1999) in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. She is a member of the IEEE.
Her hobbies are manifold, including Sitar, Dramatics, and Poetry.
Praphul Chandra is a Senior Research Scientist at HP Labs India. He works on the Simplifying web access and interaction project. His primary area of interest is complex networks in the context of social networks and information networks like the web. At hp labs, he also works on exploring new embedded systems architecture for emerging markets.
He is the author of two books – ‘Bulletproof Wireless Security’ and ‘Wi-Fi Telephony: Challenges and Solutions for Voice over WLANs’. He joined HP Labs in April 2006. Prior to joining HP he was a senior design engineer at Texas Instruments (USA) where he worked on Voice over IP with specific focus on Wireless Local Area Networks. He holds a MS in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, NY, a PG Diploma in Public Policy from University Of London and a B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Institute of Technology, BHU.
His other interest areas are evolution & economics.
Prasenjit Dey is a Senior Research Scientist at HP Labs India. He works in the area of multimodal human computer interaction. He received his Ph.D. (2004) in communications engineering from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland, on a EPFL Doctoral School Fellowship Award and a M.Tech. (1998) in communications engineering from IIT, Delhi, India, on a Samsung Fellowship Award.
He worked for Sasken Communication Technologies, Bangalore, India as a software engineer, and as an intern for Samsung Research Laboratories, Seoul, South Korea. His current interests are in the areas of information theory, signal processing, and pattern recognition in the context of multimodal systems. He is a member of IEEE and ACM
Mandalapu
Dinesh is a Research Scientist at HP Labs India. His current focus is on enabling natural and intuitive interactions by exploring new and emerging modalaties of interaction like multi-touch, pressure and camera based input. He works on developing maching learning based algorithms for interpreting gestures. He joined HP Labs in July 2005.
He holds an M.E. (2005) in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and a B.Tech (2003) in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Nagarjuna University, Vijayawada. His research interests are in the areas of pattern recognition, machine learning and human computer interaction.
His hobbies include reading books on technology and playing table tennis and tennis.
Siva Prasad Katru is a Research Scientist at HP Labs India. He works on the Simplifying web access and interaction project. His research interests include Heterogeneous wireless communications, Pervasive Computing, Smart Energy Management and the Connected home.
Before joining HP Labs, he worked as a Research Associate at Infosys, Bangalore. Siva has a M.Tech in Power Systems Engineering from IIT Kharagpur and B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engg. from Acharya Nagarjuna University, Vijayawada. His hobbies are pencil drawing, cooking and digital photography.
Suryaprakash
Kompalli is a Research Scientist at HP Labs India. He
is involved in document analysis and recognition research
in the Paper based interaction project. He
received a Bachelors in Computer Science and Engineering (2001)
from Mumbai University, India, MS (2003) and PhD (2007) in
Computer Science from the University at Buffalo, SUNY. He
joined HP Labs in 2008.
His research interests include Image Processing, Pattern Recognition,
and computing on GPUs. He has contributed to several research
articles, patents, and applications in the domains of optical
character recognition, handwriting recognition, and medical
image analysis.
Before joining HP Labs, he was a Research Associate at Wayne
State University working on medical imaging and high performance
computing. He has also worked as an intern with research groups
at NCST (Mumbai, India), NIH (Bethesda, MD), HP Labs (Bangalore,
India), and Microsoft Research (Redmond, WA).
Surya enjoys traveling, volunteering for non-profit organizations, and is a founding member of the Buffalo chapter of AID - Association for India's Development.
Krishnan Ramanathan is a Senior Research Scientist at HP Labs India. He joined HP Labs in January 2005. His current work involves
creation of rich media consumption experiences for online video consumption and web browsing using HCI, Information retrieval
and Personalization technologies.
Prior to HP Labs, he has worked at the HP enterprise software division as a product architect on the HP OpenView and
HP VirtualVault products. Earlier, he worked as a researcher at the Defence Research and Development organization (DRDO), India.
His research interests are in Human Computer Information Retrieval (HCIR), Personalization, Document Summarization and Machine Learning.
Krishnan has an M.Sc. in Computer Science from University of Poona, India and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai.
Sitaram Ramachandrula is a Senior Research Scientist at HP Labs India. He is working in the Paper Based Interaction project. He joined HP Labs in March 2003. He has earlier worked in speech recognition for local languages. He has also worked on projects in the areas of document image processing, video global motion estimation and location based services. Prior to joining HP he was a senior technical leader with Philips Semiconductors, in Philips Innovations Campus, Bangalore, India, for over 4 years. Earlier he was an assistant project leader in Encore Software, Bangalore.
He holds a PhD in Electrical Communication Engineering, with a specialization in "speech recognition", from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; M.Tech in Digital Electronics from Cochin University, Kochi, and B.E in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Osmania University, Hyderabad.
His current research interests include: camera based offline handwriting recognition and in general document image processing.
Amit Ranjan is a Senior Software Engineer at HP Labs India. His current work involves Architecture of Multimodal Interaction. He has been associated with HP Labs India since 2008.
Prior to joining HP Labs, Amit worked as a Architect at HP Best Shore Services and worked on Application Integration and Service Oriented Architectures, mostly in the Telecom domain.
Amit holds a M.Sc in Computer science and is currently pursuing MBA. His broad areas of interest are Systems Architecture, Mobile Application Platform and Multi modal interaction.
Yogesh Sankarasubramaniam is a Research Scientist at HP Labs India. He received the M.S. (2003) and Ph.D. (2006) degrees from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA, and a B.Tech degree from IIT Madras.
His primary research interests are in Information Theory, Signal Processing, and Applied Mathematics.
Koushik Sinha is a Research Scientist at HP Labs India. He is currently involved with the Simplifying Web Interactions project. He holds a PhD (2007) and MS (2003) in Computer Science from the Jadavpur University, Calcutta, India and the Clemson University, South Carolina, USA, respectively. Prior to joining HP Labs, he was with Honeywell Technology Solutions, Bangalore, India from 2004 to 2011, where he worked as a Lead Research Scientist in the Advanced Technology Lab.
Koushik received the Indian Science Congress "Young Scientist Award" for the year 2008-09 in the Information and Communication Science and Technology (including Computer Sciences) category.
His areas of interest include mobile computing, wireless ad hoc & sensor networks, assistive technologies and high performance computing. In these areas, he has a number of patents as well as publications in international journals and refereed international conferences.
Koushik serves as a reviewer for a number of international journals including the IEEE TVLSI and JPDC, among others. He also regularly serves in TPCs and organizing committees of several international conferences such as the IEEE PIMRC, IEEE Sarnoff, etc. He is a member of the IEEE, the ACM and the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA).
His other interests include travelling, music, reading books, football, table tennis and experimenting with food.
Godavari Srinivasu is a Senior Software Engineer at HP Labs India. His current work involves creation of a Cloud Services for supporting real time communication between HP devices such as Printers, mobile devices etc. and cloud services. He has been associated with HP since Jul 2001, and moved to HP Labs India on 1st Jan 2011.
Srinivasu has been associate with Labs from 2006 through HP Best Shore Services (BAS), worked on various research projects related to security and cloud services domain. Prior to joining HP Labs, he worked as a Sr. Software Architect at HP BAS and worked on distributed software, mostly Archiving and EDI domain. Srinivasu holds a M.Sc Information Technology
Anbumani (Anbu) Subramanian is a Senior Research Scientist at HP Labs, India, since December 2006. He presently works on vision-based gesture recognition for use in intuitive and multimodal human-computer interactions.
Prior to joining the labs, he was a Post-doctoral Associate at Virginia Tech and worked on developing omni-directional vision system for an autonomous surface vehicle. He was a Member of Technical Staff (Intern) at the Human Computer Interaction group of Rockwell Scientific (now Teledyne Scientific Company), developing algorithms for telephonic speech analysis in the summer of 2001. Before joining graduate school, he worked as a Software Engineer at IBM in Bangalore and New York, from 1996 to 1999.
He received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering in 2005 and 2001 from Virginia Tech. His research interests include computer vision, image analysis, and pattern recognition. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE.

Sriganesh (Sri-G) Madhvanath is a Senior Research Scientist and Research Manager at HP Labs India where he leads research in Multimodal and Gestural Interaction and novel user Human-Computer interfaces and experiences.
Sriganesh joined HP Labs in April 2002, and had led research projects in handwriting recognition and linguistic resources for Indic scripts, standards such as W3C InkML for platform-neutral representation of digital ink, and pen-based interfaces and solutions relevant to the Indian context in domains such as form filling, text input and collaboration.
Prior to joining HP he was a senior staff engineer with Narus, a startup in Palo Alto, California. Earlier he was Research Staff Member with the Document Analysis and Recognition group at IBM Almaden Research Center.
He holds a PhD and MS in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai. His research interests are in the general areas of pattern recognition and machine learning as applied to the field of human computer interfaces and interaction.
Geetha Manjunath is a Senior Research Scientist at HP Labs India, where she leads the research on Simplifying Web Interactions. She joined HP in 1997 and has been with HP Labs India since June 2007. Her current research focus is end-user-programing of personal web widgets and semantic text mining using ontologies.
Before joining HP Labs, Geetha was a lab architect at HP Systems Technology and Software Division (HP STSD) and a member of a research team working with HP Labs Palo Alto. During her 10 year stint at STSD, her work spanned multiple areas, namely Embedded Systems, Java Virtual Machine, System solutions for Mobility, Grid Computing, Storage Virtualization and Semantic Web. Her research in the above areas has lead to innovative prototypes, patents, publications and new product proposals. Before joining HP, she was a Senior Technical Staff at Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Bangalore for 7 years - where she lead a research team to develop parallel compilers for distributed memory machines.
She is a gold medalist from Indian Institute of Science where she did her Masters in Computer Science in 1991 and is currently pursuing her PhD. She was awarded the TR Shammanna Best Student award from Bangalore University in her Bachelors degree for topping across all branches of Engineering. Her broad research interests lies in Semantics of Data, Programming Language Design and Distributed Computing.

Rama Vennelakanti is a Senior Research Scientist – User Research at HP Labs India. She works on the Intuitive Multimodal and Gestural Interaction project. She joined HP Labs India in Dec 2004 as a consultant and became a member of the regular research staff in June 2010. She has a Masters Degree in Social Anthropology from the Andhra University.
At the Labs, she has led technology field trials and user explorations and is currently focused on multimodal gestural interactions towards enabling simpler and intuitive interactions for the non-tech savvy users and discovering technology needs among the unaddressed markets. Prior to joining HP Labs she has worked with BPL Innovision Business Group (BPL Mobile) as a Senior Manager Market Research, with Probe Qualitative Research – Indian Market Research Bureau (IMRB) as a Associate Project Director and held research positions at other organisations.
Kapali Viswanathan is a Research Scientist at HP Labs India. He is working on mobile-web system for seamless, usable, and secure distributed data sharing. The ideas of distributed software systems, capability-based access control, cryptography protocols, and usable security are interesting for this work
Previously, he worked on document image security domain in HPL India and investigated algorithms and systems for authenticating printed hardcopies. He has also briefly worked on information theoretic security. He was a Principal Scientist at ABB India Corporate Research Center and researched industrial automation system security, when he contributed to the analysis, design, and prototyping of a real-time communication security system with requirements for resource constraints, safety, and reliability. He worked as Senior Executive (Research and Technology) at the Society for Electronic Transactions and Security and researched on aspects of telecommunications security systems for civilian and defense purposes. He was a Research Fellow and Associate at the Information Security Institute of Queensland University of Technology, where he worked on anonymous communication protocols and systems, secure electronic cash protocols, secure electronic auction protocols, and secure key recovery/escrow protocols. Most of his research ideas has been prototyped using the Java Programming Language. He has also developed security systems that were prototyped using Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) for high speed input/output operations.
He holds a PhD and Graduate Diploma in IT degree from the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics from Bangalore University, India.

Shefali Sengupta is the Executive Admin for HP Labs India. She joined HP in March 1996. Prior to joining HP she was with SmithKline Beecham - a pharmaceutical company.
She studied science (Chemistry, Botany, Zoology & Psychology) in college and holds a degree in Commercial Practice and Business Administration. She has also completed a course on Web Designing and Internet Technology from Arena Multimedia.
Her hobbies include interior decoration, fabric painting and travelling.
