Public Lectures | |
INSPIRE - HP Labs India Public Lectures aim to offer a glimpse into the minds and the works of scientists and visionaries from various fields. What are they working on? What are they thinking about? An opportunity to listen to distinguished speakers discuss a broad range of topics in science, technology, design, and other disciplines, and their impact on everyday life, and be INSPIREd!
Schedule for 2009 |
Date: Tuesday 17th February, 2009 at 4 pm
Speaker: Prof. Ravin Balakrishnan
Department of Computer Science,
University of Toronto.
Venue: NIMHANS Convention Center, Auditorium No. 2, Hosur Road, Bangalore.
Title:
Facile interaction with displays all over the place.
Abstract:
As computing increasingly veers away from the desktop
to more mobile and "everywhere" usage scenarios,
the user interface must evolve to better support such
activities.
This talk provides a broad overview of some of the
more promising research being undertaken in the area
of next-generation user interfaces for future computing
environments, illustrated with examples from various
research works.
It will include interaction using handheld projectors,
sketch and gesture based interfaces, interfaces for
very large scale but expensive displays, interfaces
for very cheap "displays" all over the place,
and supporting infrastructure.
Speaker's Bio:
