Tim Spiller holds a BA in Physics (Oxford, 1980) and a PhD in Theoretical Physics (Durham, 1984). From October 1984 to February 1995 he held personal Research Fellowships at the University of Sussex, (1984-6 SERC, 1986 onwards The Royal Society). Tim has researched and published extensively in many areas of theoretical physics, from particle physics and the foundation of quantum mechanics through to condensed matter and quantum device physics. Throughout his career he has collaborated closely with experimental physicists (as well as other theoreticians) and he regards himself as a practical theoretician, prepared to crunch the odd number when mathematical elegance fails. Tim joined HP Labs in March 1995.

Main research interests:

  • Quantum Information Processing.

  • Liquid Crystal Modelling (for Display Technology).
