SE3D is a highlight at Animated Encounters
The first films in the HP Labs-Alias SE3D animation programme have been showcased at the annual Animated Encounters film festival in Bristol, UK.
The main cinema was full to capacity to see the progress the SE3D films-makers had made. The programme was started by animator Dan Lane, of Sky Lounge, showing his film - the first to be completed - Two Fellas. It's a humorous tale about two couch flat-mates who eventually find their favourite TV programme - and the big red button on the remote. The appreciative audience also saw a second completed film, Little Angel, by Screenburn.
Paul Appleby, from the BBC, led a panel discussion with Steve Hinde from HP talking about the technology, and Dan Lane talking about SE3D as a user of the experimental rendering service. Then the other film-makers spoke in turn of their experiences animating in the SE3D programme and showed work-in-progress clips of their films.
The SE3D showcase finished with a Q&A session involving the panel, the researchers and members of the 250-strong audience.
