Recent Research
My current research involves video processing algorithms to
improve the presentation and quality of video. This work involves using signal processing
techniques to reduce video cross-talk, improving web-cam image quality
for stationary backgrounds, and relighting techniques using IR light.
In the past, I developed
image processing and image analysis
techniques to improve the experience of
browsing image collections. I have also
worked on algorithms for image enhancement,
including compression artifact reduction,
approximate reconstruction of the digital
information from a printed page, and color
adjustment in YCC spaces. My work with audio
has included developing technologies for
exploring music collections and algorithms
for enhancing audio signals. information
from a printed page, and color adjustment in
YCC spaces.
Example Research Projects
In these pages are descriptions of a sampling of my work. I
would like to acknowledge the collaborators involved in many of
these projects. To see who else is involved, please look at the
author lists of the cited publications.

Short Biography
Ramin Samadani is a Principal Engineer at HP labs in the
Mobile and Immersive Experiences Lab. His current research
involves video processing algorithms to improve the presentation and
quality of video. He currently
serves as associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Image Processing. In
the past he developed image processing algorithms applied to display
browsing and printing of image collections, such as algorithms to
reduce compression artifacts, to resize images while preserving image
quality information, and to combine multimedia with continuous GPS
location and time information. Prior to HP, at Electronics for Imaging
(1994-2000), he worked on color technologies for high quality
printers, in engineering and management positions, ending as Director
of Imaging Technologies. At Stanford and NASA Ames (1987-1994), he
worked on feature extraction and motion analysis algorithms applied to
remote sensing applications, as well as on algorithms for color
simulation of flat panel displays. He received the MS and PhD in EECS from
Stanford University and a BS in Engineering Physics from UC Berkeley
