HP Labs India
Mobile Personal Computing project |
The explosive growth in mobile phone adoption is ample evidence of the success of the device. Especially in rapidly developing markets like India the mobile phones have managed to penetrate segments of the society where other kinds of electronic devices never managed to make even a dent. With the pre-bundled computing these phones have managed to create a fair amount of electronic awareness among the masses. Inspired by the success of this platform , our research agenda attempts to focus on some of the key challenges inherent to mobile experiences.
The small form factors not only makes mobile devices easy to carry but also enable s their use in many more contexts. These unconventional contexts present their own challenges. We are engaged in some grounds up research that addresses specific issues that come as a result of mobility. Size, power, computing speed , input output mechanisms, interaction design etc. all present opportunity for research.
Our research work focuses in the areas of :
- Simplified user experiences
- Conceptualizing and designing devices for the next billion
- Camera based document imaging and digital ink capture
- Image based search and interactions
- Pen and touch based interfaces
- Non-PC Appliances and embedded systems
- Embedded Operating Systems
Research at HP Labs aims to come up with solutions and architectures which fulfill the promise of optimizing functionality given the challenging constraints of embedded devices.
