A Variational Approach to Calibration of Multiple Cameras

Unal, Gozde; Yezzi, Anthony; Baker, Harlyn; Culbertson, Bruce

HPL-2004-219

Keyword(s): camera calibration; variational methods; function minimization

Abstract: This report addresses the problem of calibrating camera parameters such as lens distortion and color scaling using variational methods. We have presented multi-view stereo techniques based on variational ideas to (i) evolve pose parameters of a 3D model object to take advantage of the known shape of calibration objects, and to reduce computational complexity, (ii) evolve distortion parameters of cameras given a 3D model shape, (iii) evolve color calibration parameters of cameras given a 3D model shape.
