On the Entropy Rate of Pattern Processes

Abstract: This work examines some information theoretic properties of pattern sequences induced by stochastic processes. In particular, we study relationships between the entropy rate of the original process and that of its pattern sequence. We also characterize possible growth rates of the block entropy of pattern sequences.
