		 My current research interests
I work on Digital Publishing and Variable Data Print with the aim of producing high quality documents with a high level of personalization and customization.

I have interest in Workflow automation and I use a multitude of XML based formats (such as: XSL-FO/-T, SVG, PPML/T to cite some).

I am currently covering a position of Senior Research Scientist at HP Laboratories in Bristol, UK.

I am HP representative at the W3C XSL Working Group
		 Prototypes: Anvil XSL-FO Toolkit
One of my research goals is to add complex text composition capabilities to XSL-FO such as non-rectangular shapes and text-runaround.
This work resulted in a set of prototypes that can produce and consume a proposed XSL-FO notation with SVG region definition.
The producer is a Adobe's InDesign plug-in capable of exporting either the XSL-FO 1.1 specifications or my proposed new format.
A java based reader allows the user to explore the exported format, inspecting several aspects of it, and ultimately generate PDF.
		 Past research activities
In the past I worked on technologies and solutions for Web based Device Independent publishing. Updated List of Referred PapersSince I don't really have time to update this page frequently, please see the list of referred papers using the DBLP service at: Fabio's Publications
 Past Prototypes: WH2FO and FOA
WH2FO is a MS Word 2000 HTML converter to separate parts: content, style (xsl attribute sets) and xslt stylesheet.
Its output could be imported in FOA to provide a design starting point for office-like documents.
FOA is an authoring/engineering tool that enables to design a variable document using XSL-FO and XSL-T without writing a single line of code.
