Abstract: In this paper we present a framework for capturing consumer intent in a retail environment. The proposed framework supports the acquisition of intent using multiple devices and in multimodal input formats such as text, audio, and still images. The prototype was designed to be flexible and requires minimal user interaction in all modes of data acquisition. Data acquired in different modes can be easily integrated into a universal list. The system was used in a three phase user study to analyze the process that consumers go through in order to make purchasing decisions. Based on these findings, we recommend desirable features for personal information management systems specifically designed for the retail environment. Publication Info: Submitted to SIG CHI
