Local Temperature Control in Data Center Cooling: Part III, Application

Chen, Keke; Auslander, David M.; Bash, Cullen E.; Patel, Chandrakant D.

Keyword(s): data center cooling; smart cooling; local temperature control; vent tile; correlation matrix

Abstract: Recent work has proposed a control algorithm to optimize local temperature distribution in data centers, based on the information of the correlation matrix between vent group configuration and rack inlet temperature [2] [3]. This paper presents the results of a case study in which this algorithm is applied to the appointed area of an experimental data center. Another algorithm which does not use the correlation matrix is also tested in the same area. These results indicate an improvement of rack inlet temperature distribution by using controllable vent tiles.
