An Observational Study of an Independent Book Store

Rajani, Rakhi

HPL-2003-107

Keyword(s): shopping; technology; mobility; bookstore

Abstract: This report describes an observational study of an independent bookstore. The study was part of a larger effort that looked at shopping as an information rich nomadic activity that is split between the virtual world of online shopping and the very physical nature of products in 'real world' stores. Our research program in UbiMedia [1] influenced the choice of bookstores as the shopping domain to focus on as an environment rich in information and choices. The purpose of this report is to describe the rich environment of the store.
