Getting Agents to Negotiate Good Deals: A Progress Report

Abstract: One aspect of web services is automating processes formerly done by people. One such process is negotiation. Automating negotiations requires that we be able to specify what we want, and the software needs a strategy for achieving a good result. This work focuses on developing a negotiating strategy, but problems in description, defining utility, and estimating the other party's goals are also addressed. Although much work remains to be done, this report describes the progress made to date.
