The Cameraphone Revolution (It's Just Beginning...) |
The first Kodak camera, introduced over a century ago, revolutionized photography by making it personal and portable. Photographs were no longer simply stuffy portraits--people could take pictures of whatever aspects of life they wanted to remember and share. Half a century later, the Polaroid Land camera ushered in another revolution by allowing people to instantly share their photos. Once again, the types and numbers of photos taken increased dramatically.
Cameraphones promise to deliver a new revolution, potentially more significant than any before it. With cameraphones, we can not only instantly take and share photos, but we can do so with anyone in the world. The Plog project is an attempt to catalyze this revolution by focusing on key aspects of human interaction. The key is to make it easy and fun. Already, we see that early adopters of cameraphones are creating rich new kinds of photography, capturing daily events, objects of interest, personal reminders, and all kinds of things never before photographed with any kind of camera. Why are more and more people doing this? Because they can.
Plog seizes and extends this exciting new opportunity in a couple key ways:
- Plog makes it easy and effortless to capture and share photos with rich metadata
- Plog automates and enriches the organization and presentation of photos by turning them into stories
Plog is not a photoblog. It is not about publishing a list of pictures on a web page. Plog is about telling stories that are easy to create, fun to watch, and interactive. Plog itself is far from revolutionary. It is the cameraphone that is revolutionary. Plog simply helps unlock its potential.
