Amir Said has been with HP Labs since 1998. He is now a dept. scientist in the Media Technologies Lab. He worked on the development of several compression methods that are now used in HP products. Between 2000 and 2003 he managed the Compression and Multimedia Technology Project. (See publications and reports for information about non-confidential research).

Amir Said received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Campinas, Brazil, and the Ph.D. degree in Computer and Systems Engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY. Prior to joining HP he worked at IBM, and was Assistant Professor at University of Campinas.

Dr. Said received from the IEEE Signal Processing Society a Best Paper Award for his work on multi-dimensional signal processing, and a Best Paper Award from the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society for his work on image coding. He also received the Most Innovative Paper Award at the 2006 IEEE Int. Conference on Image Processing.
