Neerja Raman, director of strategic planning for imaging
and printing, HP Labs, is one of six 2005 inductees into
the Women in Technology International Hall of Fame, an honor
considered to be among the most prestigious for women in
science and technology worldwide.
Inductees, who are chosen for their innovative work in
their respective industries, are honored during an awards
ceremony and gala on celebrating the 10th anniversary of
Women in Technology International (WITI) the leading professional
group for technical women.
“As Hall of Fame inductees, these women are the role
models and sources of inspiration for the next generation
of women interested in pursuing careers in science and technology,” said
Carolyn Leighton, CEO, chairwoman and WITI founder. “All
Hall of Fame winners are selected by an independent panel
of judges for their contributions in these fields, as well
as their commitment to support and mentor other women.”
Leadership role
Raman, who joined HP Labs in 1995, has long been involved
with helping professional women advance. In addition to
mentoring many individuals, she has been active in numerous
programs aimed at raising the profile and advancement opportunities
for technical women.
She is on the steering committee for HP Labs' technical
women's group, a member of the National Association for
Female Executives, serves on the advisory board of Maitri,
a women's self-help organization and was formerly on the
board of the Indian Business and Professional Women.
Prior to her current position, Raman was director of HP
Labs' Imaging Systems Lab, leading a team creating the strategic
vision and technology for the company’s innovative
imaging and printing products and services. She joined HP
Labs in 1995 after 11 years in HP Analytical divisions.
Distinguished group
Other Hall of Fame inductees are Barbara Bauer, vice president,
software engineering and development, Sun Microsystems;
Sonja Bernhardt, chief executive officer, Thoughtware, Australia;
Sandra E. Burke, director of Cardiovascular Systems Research
at Abbott Laboratories; Melendy Lovett, president, Texas
Instruments Educational & Productivity Solutions and
Amparo Moraleda Martinez, IBM general manager, Spain, Portugal,
Greece, Israel and Turkey.
“I am honored to be a part of such an outstanding
group of women who are avid pursuers of science and technology
and who are also passionate about furthering the career
of women in advanced technology fields,” said Raman.
In celebration of its 10th year anniversary, this year’s
event honors 2005 inductees along with the 55 past recipients.
The awards ceremony and gala is part of the December 2005
WITI Silicon Valley Conference in San Jose, CA.
