Some Properties of PRMA

Proudler, Graeme J.; Ferrandiz, Josep

Keyword(s):

Abstract: The first part of this short note argues that the Packet Reservation Multiple Access (PRMA) radio protocol is essentially the same as the Distributed Queue Dual Bus (DQDB) hardwired protocol(gip). The second part contains short derivation of some properties of PRMA which are in agreement with the results of published simulations(jmf). In particular system efficiency and system delay are derived for the case of K classes of users, class i consisting of N sub i active users, each having a transmission permit probability p sub i. It is assumed throughout that the number of active class i users contending for the slot remains constant and that the contention process experienced by the slot is independent from one frame to another.
