Abstract: Elementary matrices are studied in a general framework where the Gauss and Householder types are particular cases. This compendium includes an analysis of characteristic properties,some new derivations for the representation of products, and selected applications. It is the condensation of notes useful for the development and test of matrix software, including high-performance block algorithms.
