Abstract: Waterken is a platform built on the Java virtual machine that allows the quick development of reliable, secure, distributed applications. In this introduction, we will first go over the basic concepts of the Waterken platform. Then we will write two services. The first is a digital cash system. The second is a cookie store, at which you can spend digital cash and buy virtual cookies. After confirming that the store and the cash work together, we will initiate a cookie purchase while crashing the cash server and watch reliable recovery take place even though the application includes no recovery code.
