Abstract: Web-based or on-line experiments are still a relatively new research topic. Laboratory or highly controlled experiments are, for many reasons, the preferred methodology for visual experiments. However recent experiments suggest that on-line experiments have some unique properties and advantages that may in some cases outweigh or offset their disadvantages. This paper will consider on-line experiments from both a general and a narrow perspective. Specifically a range of specific experiments, and on-line tools, will be considered from a broad vantage and possible themes or considerations for these experiments will be considered.
