Abstract:As device ecosystems become crowded and experiences become richer and disaggregated, the need for a simple mechanism to choose and associate with a device from a large set becomes more important. This paper describes the role that context awareness plays in the novel and radically simple device association technology "Chromatic Association". Chromatic Association provides a mechanism for application and service developers to leverage the rapidly growing ecosystems of connected devices to facilitate the seamless transfer of elements of experiences, such as audio, video and control, from one device to another. However, without leveraging contextual data from users, clients, devices and the environment Chromatic Association will be confronted with many of the user experience obstacles which have impeded the adoption of other technologies in this space.
