Nanoelectronics Research Group (NRG)
Goal
Utilize the dynamical properties of selected nanodevices to transform information technology and electronic circuitry industries.
Dynamical nanoelectronic devices' properties change with the electrical history (charge, current and voltage) applied to them. The Memristor is the first such theoretically predicted device which was reduced to practice by this group.
Impact
- extend the frontiers of electronics research by employing, for the first time, a fourth fundamental element of electronic circuits.
- enable the continuation of Moore’s Law through the creation of computing devices able to process more data at a higher density.
- significantly reduce power consumption in IT systems which currently consume 2% of all power used in the USA.
Research
- research and develop memristor-based devices for memory applications.
- explore other novel dynamical nanoelectronic devices to create completely new functionality.
- leverage these new devices and functionalities to build more compact circuitry and lower-powered computer systems.
- exploit the properties of dynamical nanoelectronics to develop new architectures based on unconventional 3-D type circuitry and neuro-emulation.
