The utility rendering service is the first prototype service for a
Digital Media Grid and is intended to:

Demonstrate how rendering
workload demands can be flexibly supplied by a utility/Grid computing
style approach.

Demonstrate the value of the
HP Labs SmartFrog technology for specifying and deploying distributed
applications.

Investigate the role of Grid
technologies in delivering media services.

As a proof of concept, HP Labs Bristol collaborated with local digital
production house 422 on The Painter, a 4
minute animated short rendered using our service running in our
Utility Data Center.
