Tong Zhang

Biography

Tong Zhang received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Univ. of Southern California, Los Angeles, in 1998 and 1999, respectively. She also received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biomedical Engineering in 1992, 1994, and 1996, respectively, B.A. degree in Economics in 1992, all from Tsinghua Univ., Beijing, China.
 

Since Feb. 2000, she has been working as a researcher at HP Labs, Palo Alto, and mostly focused on multimedia content analysis projects, such as  video segmentation and summarization, audio/video event detection, music classification and structure analysis, face clustering for digital photo organization, etc.

Tong has authored one book, over 50 journal and conference papers, over 40 patent applications, over 60 invention disclosures. She has been issued 13 US patents. She was member of U.S. National Delegation to MPEG International Standard from 1998 to 2000. And she was co-chair of the SPIE Conference on Internet Multimedia Management Systems from 2002 to 2005. She is now associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology.

Right now, Tong is a researcher in the Multimedia Interaction and Understanding Lab, focused on extracting information from multimedia content and interactions for the purpose of knowledge discovery, representation, and rendering.
