Nigel Edwards

Biography

Nigel Edwards works in the Automated Infrastructure Lab, HP Labs
Bristol, UK, on the SLiM (Service Lifecycle Management) project. This
project is about how to manage the deployment, operation and change of
existing applications on cloud infrastructures. He also works in
collaboration with SAP Research on automation and adaptive utility
computing solutions for hosted SAP systems.

Since joining HP in 1988, Nigel has worked on a variety of security
and distributed system projects within product divisions and HP
Labs. He spent 6 months on site taking HP's first Utility Computing
product (UDC) into production with its first customer. He led the
Secure Linux (HP-LX) product team.  He co-authored the first draft of
the Oasis Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) standard. He led
the e-speak (an e-services platform) security team and was co-author
of the architecture specification.

He represented HP for over 3 years in the Advanced Network Systems
Architecture (ANSA) project working with engineers from other
companies to developed and explored a lot of the early ideas adopted
by the OMG for CORBA. He invented and implemented CORBAweb and
CORBAgate which were released as part of HP's CORBA products.

In 1993, working with Berners-Lee's team, he had one of the first web
servers on HP-UX - the CERN web server.

Nigel holds a PhD from the University of Bristol in Dynamically
Reconfigurable Distributed Systems.
