Biography

Michael is a Principal Scientist in the Commercial Print Engine Lab, which is focused on delivering innovations in printing processes and materials for dramatic performance improvements in commercial print engines.  The Lab works closely with IPG in its commercial printing effort, especially the Indigo Division in Israel.  The Indigo digital presses are based on the electrophotographic (EP) process, an area Michael has been involved in since the 1980's.  He has contributed to the basic understanding in EP, especially in development and toner adhesion. 

Since HP's acquisition of Indigo in 2001, Michael has worked in multiple aspects of its printing engine.  One of the Commercial Pinting Engine Lab's successful technology transfers, the charge roller, is incorporated in the HP Indigo 7000 introduced in Drupa08.  He and his co-workers came up with multiple inventions and improvements, enabling the charge roller to meet its quality and life goals.  This new Series III press runs at nearly twice the speed of the previous generation, keeping Indigo competitive in the commercial digital printing market.

 

Research interests

Michael has worked in many technology areas and has wide interests.  In recent years he is focused on all aspects of electrophotography, especially the liquid electrophotographic process since HP's acquisition of Indigo.  He is adept at creating rough models of physical processes.

Michael is a Fellow of the Society of Imaging Science and Technology.
